Obama’s Choices – #4 David Axelrod

Posted by: djcnor on: January 1, 2009

Obama and David Axelrod have run in the same Chicago circles since 1992. Now, Obama has chosen Axelrod as his Senior Advisor.

The job of Senior Advisor is what the President chooses it to be. Obama will have three Senior Advisors, Valerie Jarrett and Pete Rouse as well as Axelrod. Axelrod advised Obama during his campaign for the Senate in 2004 and was chief strategist during the Presidential campaign. Politics and PR are his areas of expertise. Believe it or not, he was a fan of John Kennedy at five and worked in Robert Kennedy’s campaign when he was only 13.

Axelrod knows how reporters think because he was one. He started writing for the Chicago Tribune right out of college and rose rapidly to be a political columnist.

Axelrod is responsible for Obama’s inviting participation and advice from the people as well as his use of new media. He’s not one of the Ivy League crowd. He grew up in Stuyvesant Town, a very large apartment complex built just after WWII and known for being home to NY civil servant middle-class types of leftist leanings.

In my opinion, in David Axelrod, we have someone who will be pushing Obama in all the right directions and advising him well in how to sell the new path to Americans stuck way too long in low expectations of government.
