Myths Americans Believe about the US

Posted on: March 21, 2009

Executive pay in the US is not out of line with that in other first world nations.

In actuallity, executive pay in other first world nations is only about a third of US CEO pay. See table 2 in the reference below.

The ratio of CEO pay to worker pay in the US is not out of line with that in other first world nations.

In actuallity, it is far out of line, nearly twice what it is in other first world countries. See figure 2 in the same reference.

The ratio of executive pay to worker pay in the US has not changed very much in the last 40 years.

In actuallity, it has gone from 24 to 1 to 240 to 1. See figure 3 of the same reference.

In any case, whatever executives are paid, it doesn’t hurt the workers in any way. Nothing is being taken from them. It just goes along with their opportunity to move into a higher class which is easier to do in the US than elsewhere.

In actuality, class mobility is highter in several first world countries, especially in the most socialist ones.

Well, that’s a start. I’ll post more as they come to my attention.
